Autotrader, ebay, Gumtree, local ads … whatever it takes to find your van.
I wanted a van big enough to have a garage for a motorbike – allowing us to travel and if the sun shines get the BMW out and go for a ride.
But there are other things to consider.
After looking for several weeks – I finally found a 2004 black LWB sprinter advertised on ebay about 30 miles away – ex fleet vehicle with 120k miles on it for £4000
The decision to buy a Mercedes Sprinter 311 for the conversion was made because we needed a LWB to allow a garage to be built in the back. The choice of engine was made on economy and ability to do the job.
Found this one on ebay at Ex Fleet Van sales at Batley. Lots to choose from.
Ex DHL van – hence the vivid yellow. The black respray job is a good one with only a little more black paint needed to cover some of the yellow inside the van at a later stage.
One of the first things to do was remove the thin metal bulk head from the front of cargo area.
It was only fastened with pop rivets and head no structural strength.
Giving it a good wash down inside using hot soapy water and libral amounts of spray engine degreasent, made the working area a lot better. It also reduced the 'industrial' smell the van head caused by a few years of dirt build up
